National 5 biology?

Ok so I'm S4 and my dream job has recently switched from a teacher to a paramedic. I have all of the subjects required to be a paramedic except for biology. I didn't take biology in S3 because it was strongly advised against by the teachers because I was so bad at it. It's also advised against by the teachers to take a subject for national 5 if you didn't take it in S3 because of how much of the course you've missed. My plan was thr naked national 5 biology in S5 and then higher in S6 but is it too late to do this? I think I've left it too late to take a science because of not doing it in S3, can anybody give me any tips on this? Thank you!

honestly doing it in s3 doesnt help at all really
if you can, it might be better to just crash higher biology in s5, but i'd reccomend looking at the course specification before to see if you will actually like the course!!
there is alot of memorisation in H biology so if your good at that then i dont see any reason for you not to do it in s5

Is you weren’t good at biology why do you want to do paramedic science?

Hey(:

Definitely possible to crash a science in s5 and do okay in it! - I crashed higher physics in s5 after not taking it since s2 and found it okay! - as others were mentioning, have a read on the sqa website in the course specifications and you can get a bit of an idea on what's involved in the qualification😊 - generally found with crashing i was spending a bit more time on revision than my other subjects so i could understand the concepts - but it is very doable!

Would also reccomend going to any study support things within school and studying as a group! - i found sometimes with physics id not understand things because i was missing previous knowledge from the n5, when studying in a group usually if anything like this came up i was able to get a bit of an explanation from my friends (:

hope this helps, best of luck!!

N5 biology was really pretty easy and didn't link much to Higher, so definitely just crash higher biology, if Higher Human bio was an option that would be even better as it is much more interesting than the normal biology and would link better to your career.
As above, you need to consider that if you aren't the best at biology, maybe a course that fully focuses on just biology might not be the best for you. I would say that taking Higher Biology and seeing how you do would be a good test of this, as doing paramedic science would essentially be signing yourself up for 3 years of just biology.
Best of luck!

if possible crashing higher bio in S5 is probably the best option, as someone who has done biology from N5 to now doing advanced higher I genuinely could not tell u a thing from N5.... and especially if your school offers higher human biology as you'll enjoy it more cause it links to your job choice. even if you don't get what you need by the end of S5 year you can always resit in S6 but I definitely think its worth taking if its something you enjoy and if you want to be a paramedic!!

Hi. Someone in my year (S5) is currently crash-highering biology after not taking it since S2, and she just got an A on her prelim. It's definitely more than possible.

Also, you may want to look into the SCQF Level 6 First Aid qualification.

hi, im in s5 and i dropped into n5 bio this year!! i took chem in s3 and no sciences in s4 so its definitely different than my regular subjects, however having that said i think that being older has actually helped me. i've found that so much of the paper is problem solving with the worst being basic n5 maths so it definitely helps having done n5 maths beforehand. honestly apart from that its just memorisation and remembering key words. id definitely reccommend dropping into it if you can as its such an enjoyable subject

Yeah, I know that my biology knowledge isnt fantastic but I know that I have a lot more knowledge now that I did a few years ago and I can hopefully keep up, thank you for the advice!
