Politics A-level - ops?

hi there!
i’m currently a year 11 student who’s debating on whether politics a-level is a good idea for me. my other 2 subjects will definitely spanish and english lit (i’m fluent in spanish so the workload should be relatively lighter) but instead of politics i’m also considering RE or geography. i also want to go into law.
can anyone who has been through/is going through politics a level give me their thoughts on the course? is the workload too much and is it interesting?
thank you so much!!!

I was considering politics but chose maths instead. Whichever combination you go with will be perfect for law, so it’s really just a matter of workload and I do think maths helps since it’s not an essay subject. However, if you really are confident in your Spanish then fair enough: politics is a great A-level. Just my thoughts.

Excellent choice - Politics is a solid essay-based subject, interesting and useful.

hi, did you do essay based subjects alongside maths? if so, did you think it was helpful to have a non-essay based subject as a ‘break’ from essay writing? i was considering this in terms of geography as even though it’s a humanity it has some maths in there too.

Im a y13, and yes I did. I do find maths very useful as a ‘break,’ but I’m unsure about geography since there is a significant NEA aspect to it and is still quite heavily essay based. However, don’t feel compelled to do a ‘science’ subject for this reason. Three essay subjects is absolutely doable especially when you are quite good at a language, as you are.

Hi! Politics A-level can be a really good choice if you're aiming for law, as it develops critical thinking, argument analysis and essay writing skills that are all relevant. The workload is definitely manageable alongside Spanish and English lit, especially if you are organised. You may find it useful to find it really engaging because you get to debate , discuss case studies and apply theory to real-world events.
