Oxford PGCE College Selection

I recently received and accepted an offer to do my PGCE (Mathematics) at the University of Oxford, and I was wondering how the selection process works. I'm quite familiar with the collegiate system, having been to Cambridge for my undergraduate, but postgraduate obviously works quite differently for things like accommodation and applying to colleges.

I have narrowed down to a few colleges which I'm fairly happy with*, but I'm not sure how college places are allocated. Do we get to put down a few or just one? Is it that every college that does the PGCE course is equally likely to accept a PGCE applicant over another postgrad, or do some have a preference either way? How is accommodation given out, and is it likely that they would be able to have an earlier starting time for the lease since PGCE students need to be there from early September?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated

*Edit to add: I plan to visit and learn more about their accommodation and walking distance to facilities and the faculty before I narrow it down further. If you happen to have any specific advice for colleges for the PGCE, I would love to get as much information as I can

For college allocation - as far I’m aware this is the process (and I’m taking this from the info I received from my official offer). Once you accept, at some point they’ll send you a “graduate application from.” You fill this in and I believe this is where you state your college preference and whether you would intend to stay in college accommodation. I googled the form and found one from a couple of years back and you were only able to put one choice. Then the application goes to the college and they either accept or reject it. If they reject it I think you then just get allocated another college from the list for your subject.

With early accommodation start dates - I have a feeling I’ve read someone on one of the college sites that they have the ability for early accommodation start dates for pgce students, but I can’t think for the life of me where I read it.

The Oxford website has some good maps etc that show the colleges and where they are. To be fair, Oxford isn’t huge and everything is walkable/bikeable. Which ones are you thinking about so far?

I received my offer just before Christmas (19th December to be specific) and accepted it the next day. I heard back in the first or second week of January with the Canvas email.

Thank you very much ! Sorry I've only just seen this.

You were right about the graduate application form, and apparently it is only one college and they are given out first-come-first-serve. They also said in the offer-holder day that Oxford colleges are generally flexible for PGCE students with early starts.
