Picking uni - Bristol or Nottingham

I am having trouble choosing between UoB and UoN. If I pick Bristol, I have to complete a foundation year and then I can progress onto the Math with CS course. If I pick Nottingham, no foundation year just the CS course.

Both unis offer fantastic programs and I would not mind either course as I enjoy both maths and CS, but I'm wondering what would be more useful for me in the long run. I'm not sure if the additional year at Bristol would be worth it.

What do you want to do in the long term?

I doubt that the extra year's student debt would be worth it.

For many jobs the addation year of student debt will make no difference as the loan will never be fully repaid.

But unless the maths is needed by a job, having addation pratical experience in employment will be worth more then spending an addation year (without earning) at university.

I'm not sure yet, I applied to maths with CS because I thought it would give me a broader range of options to choose from when the time came. With how competitive the industry is I want to maximise my chances.

Are you an international student? If so, a Foundation Year (FY) can provide a stronger and more structured start to your academic journey and future career. In addition, if you have been away from formal education for some time and feel that you may have forgotten some fundamental mathematics and physics concepts, a Foundation Year would be an excellent pathway to revise and strengthen these core subjects before beginning your bachelor’s degree at the University of Bristol.

The University of Nottingham is offering you direct entry without a Foundation Year. However, you should approach this option carefully. Direct entry is advisable only if you are confident that you have a strong background in mathematics and related subjects and feel fully prepared to begin the Maths with Computer Science programme immediately. If you do not feel academically ready, Bristol may be the better choice. Entering directly at Nottingham could be significantly more challenging without the additional academic preparation that a Foundation Year provides.
