How to revise for TMUA?

I’m really annoyed at myself because I’ve put off TMUA revision for so long and now I basically only have 2 and a half weeks until my exam 😭 I’m getting super stressed and it’s making my feel so anxious like I can’t even do anything properly without dreading it, and I have my mocks to revise for and it’s just really stressful. I know year 1 one content pretty well and I’m decent at maths that’s my only hope 😭 does anyone have any tips? I need TMUA for UCL and Warwick (optional) for econ, and I don’t think I need a crazy score near 9 or anything so I’m just aiming for a 4.5-5. I’m not sure if this is actually the scores I will need but I think this is a score I’d be happy with. I really regret not preparing earlier , so anything would be useful ☹️

I think with 2–3 weeks, it’s still doable if your maths is okay. I’d revise key logic ideas first, like statements and their negations, because they come up quite a lot.

Then focus on TMUA past papers and actually review your mistakes. MAT questions can be useful as extra practice too. Near the exam, try doing full papers under time pressure and get used to writing on the whiteboard they give you.

For Warwick Econ, TMUA is optional, so it’s more of a bonus. Getting a solid score is enough

Yes definitely go through the paper 2 spec first and learn that content- it's not usually taught in schools and it takes a while to get your head around! Without it you're paper 2 score would be severely capped

Then TMUA past papers. Mark them with R2Drew2 videos. Write down any strategies you learn although the new TMUA papers are a little different to the past papers available in terms of question type. But all practice is good!

If you have time MAT questions in 1hr time (attempt to do it in well under) and the old economics admissions test papers!

Good luck! And remember a score below your expectations is not necessarily the end of the world! If I the exam you find something hard, don't panic and just SKIP. The questions aren't necessarily order of difficulty (at least it's not specified and I find it a bit random)

Hello again sorry for asking another question, but now I only have about a week left, and I can only get around 4 answers correct per paper and I’m really stressing. Do you think a bad score will get me completed rejected from UCL and Warwick? I have a few days and I’m not really sure what else to do but loads of questions ☹️

No worries, I'm happy to try help!

I'm not entirely sure about UCL but for Warwick, it won't be the end of the world. Warwick say they consider people with bad scores alongside those who didn't sit the test entirely so it won't get you completely rejected! In fact, fairly sure I heard of an offer with a TMUA of 1.0. I don't think UCL will have too different of a stance, even if they don't specify this is what they do, purely because many of those with the highest scores will also be applying to Oxbridge, LSE, Warwick which people would consider equally good if not better and may firm instead - UCL will want to fill their places!

My biggest advice is to try not to stress too much! All the exams which I've ever really messed up are the ones I panicked in because I put too much pressure on myself! Also, if you find a question hard, skip it and just come back to it. Nobody has ever said the questions are in order of difficulty. You may find an easier question later on and it's far better to spend more time on topics you are better at than questions you are stuck on!

Definitely just practice loads of questions at this point! I wouldn't add up your score because if you feel your doing badly it'll just make you feel more disappointed when really, admissions tests are meant to be hard because they are differentiating between top tier students like you! Have a look at R2Drew2's solutions and videos! It may be worth going over the questions which seem to crop up every year. If you get stuck on a question and don't understand R2drew2 ASK SOMEONE - a teacher, a friend, I don't mind having a look if you put it on here or message me either! And make sure you have a go at the practice test they've created to experience what it's like sitting the exam online because that's a hurdle of its own unfortunately. When you sit the exam, be careful about clicking anywhere on the page after choosing your answer, except the 'next' button. Some of us saw our answer 'jump' when we did that, it's poorly designed software.

Please please don't stress about it, keeping calm will give you the best shot at it!
