How hard is first year civil engineering or it all together

From my prespective im always seeing people screaming and going on how horrific engineering is. Which is really putting me off it even though i have applied through ucas to study civil engineering. Like im expecting it to be hard and multiple assignments + homework but the way i perceive it is that they have no life outside of their course. Idek. Any advice would be amazing thanks
It's fine. It's not necessarily harder than another degree, assuming you are good at maths and physics and interested in the material. You have somewhat higher than average contact hours in first year due to labs etc typically but it's not unreasonable, at least at most unis.

Not sure who is claiming engineering is horrific and you can't have a life outside the course, I would surmise they are very ill-suited for the course and suffering in it and should consider switching course rather than claiming it's unmanageable...
