STEP after Cambridge Maths Post-Interview Rejection

Hey! I just had my interview for Cambridge to study Mathematics at Queen's college a few days ago, and I flopped it really badly. I'm certain I'm going to get rejected now, but I wanted to ask if I should still take the STEP. I'm confident I'd be able to do well in the STEP, and I enjoy it loads, and I've also heard that Cambridge reconsiders some applicants they previously rejected based on their interview if they did well in STEP. Could someone give me more details on how exactly this works, and what my chances of making it to Cambridge through this way would be?

They don't reconsider people after interview in the same year.

However, interviewees are notoriously bad at judging how they did in interview, because they are looking at and for the wrong things. There's almost no correlation between how the candidate thinks they did and how they actually did, so keep preparing for STEP.

Worst comes to the worst, a decent STEP grade will always give more confidence to you and others in your mathematical ability, regardless of this year's Cam outcome.

Are you eligible for the August Reconsideration Pool? This depends on your school, home post code and family income. You can search it and find out if you are eligible. If so, I strongly recommend carry on with STEP. My son was rejected and get 1, 1 in STEP. He is now at Cambridge studying maths!
If not eligible, I don't think you have a chance this year unless you get an offer. However, you could do STEP and it will support your application if you like to reapply next year. Good luck.

Study STEP will help with getting A* in A level and is great prep for 1st year maths in any university.
