Uni offer holder days

Is it better to have a parent come with you for an offer holder day or not? I’m thinking of just going solo lol

i think its beneficial to have them but also go alone. maybe if the open day offers subject talks go to those alone, or anything not campus related, and have their opinion on things like accomodation and campus.

Either way is fine. No-one will be judging.

Its handy having a parent there to a) do the driving and b) take notes while you listen to the subject presentations, and they can ask the questions that you don't want to ask!

Hey, definitely would help bringing your parent so you gain different perspectives during offer holder day, the things you missed your parent could of spotted etc.

Hi @rafaelaaacortez
From my experience its better to bring a parent along for uni open days. Whether its for transport, helping with directions, giving confidence to go up to lecturers and student helpers to ask questions, providing questions that you forgot to ask or hadn't thought about, and give a completely different perspective of the university.

I went to my offer holder days myself. My mum came to open days so she could help me see what the uni was like. But sometimes they will focus on certain things and you may not have the chance to make your own opinion.

All my offer holder days had separate talks for parents and prospective students. So you would have presentations and mock lectures/seminars alone. It's also a good chance to get some independence. If you can travel alone that helps, or you may need your parent to drive you.

If you want to/are thinking of going solo, I would recommend it, but don't stress either way, there will be lots of people both with and without parents. Maybe speak to your parents before going about anything they think you need to find out about the uni/any worries (or positives) they have about it. But also, have an open mind.

I went to an open day and really enjoyed a uni. Went to the offer holder day and hated it, so made my like easier in decisions. I got all 5 offers, went to 3 offer holder days (decided I wasn't going to go to the other universities) and then firmed and insured.

i never brought my parents but quite a few people did - depends how much you want them to weigh in on your uni choices?

if you go with friends from school it can be a fun day out, I went to edinburgh and london with mine

Hi!

Either is fine really! students come alone/with parents/friends on our open days, but if you want a secondary input on the course/university then definitely bring a parent.
