Student Finance on dropping out/ Changing courses

Hello I am a foundation year student studying my first degree, however I have not been enjoying it at all and I am dropping out of it, Instead im interested in going into a different field at a different university however the course I plan on taking will also have a foundation year. I was wondering will SFE cover the length of that course?

Hi there, have you already advised your university that you will be dropping out of your current course?

For to further assist you with your query please answer the following questions:

Current course:
The university you are currently at?
The exact course title?
Is this a Full Time or Part Time course?

New course:
The university you want to change to?
The exact course title?
Is this a Full Time or Part Time course?
How many years is the new course in total?
How many years of previous study have you used so far?
When are you planning to start your studies?

Thank you, Stephen.

Thank you for the reply so currently im studying a foundation year in computer science at University of Liverpool, this is full time and my only degree I have done and im dropping out of it in the first semester. But I want to instead do accounting and finance with a foundation year at Durham University, I plan to start this in the 2026 academic year, this will also be full time. Thanks

Hi there. Student Finance uses this calculation to work out how much funding you have left:

New course length + Additional Year Previous study years

For example, your new course is 4 years long, your calculation would be:

4 + 1 1 = 4 years entitlement

This means you would have enough years of Tuition Fee funding left for your new course. Thanks, Leah.
