Best UK unis for a film production BA?

Hey! I’m planning to apply to UK universities for a film production BA and I’d love some honest advice.

I’m looking for a place with good practical filmmaking, solid industry reputation, and decent job prospects after graduating.

Some of the schools I'm considering are UAB, Westminster, UAL, UCA, Ravensbourne, Falmouth...

If you've studied film in the UK or know people who have, which of these are actually good? Any you'd avoid? If I’m missing any uni that’s worth considering, let me know!

Would love to hear real experiences (good or bad).

Thanks a lot!
Hello!

I'm currently a first year studying film production at Coventry University. When I was searching for universities the main thing I looked at was if they had a placement year option and how they approached the topic of employability after university.

I ended up applying to Bath Spa, UEA and Coventry. All three had a placement year option, great films from former students, great connections to industry and great facilities for practical film making. To find out more information about the schools you are considering you can google 'the university name film production BA' and it should bring you to the university website with information all about your course.

A very important element to consider is whether you are interested in Tv or film production. I know you stated you are looking at film production but there are a lot of courses that both or they could also be called media production. Film production focuses on film and is quite niche compared to Tv or media production that will also focus on live or reality shows as well as radio.

The main reasons I chose Coventry University include:

The support for a placement year - They have a Talent Team dedicated employability and internship/placement support

The large media loans shop - students may book out professional industry standard equipment for free for a few days at a time

The university is spread out around the city rather than confined to a private campus

Let me know if you have any questions
Hope this was able to give you some insight

Hiya! I'm Alexandro and I'm currently a second year Film student at Falmouth .

There's lot's of reasons to apply to all of the uni's you've listed so I thought I'd share with you some of the reasons why I ended up choosing Falmouth uni.

My first reason was the collaboration aspect of the Falmouth environment. I personally love working with all sorts of artists and people to elevate my work. Falmouth heavily promotes and supports collaboration between the different courses we have. I've gotten to work with all sorts of students ranging from acting and music all the way to e-sports and livestreaming! The only courses I haven't worked with yet are courses like architecture, robotics and business (but I am sure I'll be working with them soon, they can't escape me). Another reason this aspect of Falmouth is really nice is that we have access to the facilities and equipment of other departments as long as we're inducted on them, this means I can go out and be inducted to use facilities like the photography dark room or the metal working workshop.

Another reason I chose Falmouth was because of the quality of the facilities and course as well as the networking opportunities. Not only are all staff and lecturers industry professionals, most still working in industry, but they're incredibly supportive and helpful. The fact they're still in industry also makes sure that we're always learning up to date material in an ever-changing industry, our equipment and facilities are also always at the top of industry standards. Outside of general networking opportunities around the university, the biggest one is probably the fact that Falmouth is one of the only universities in the world to have an actual working production company attached to the uni that makes feature films every year with real industry filmmakers. They often bring in students to fill up some of the roles on these productions which is really great for networking, putting your name out there and experience!

These are a lot of the course specific reasons I chose Falmouth, theres of course other reasons for me like the location, local community and more but I thought you'd mainly want to hear about the course related things. If you want any more information please don't hesitate to respond and ask me any other questions!
