Time management for essays

Hey all
I’m in yr11 and I’m aiming for all 9s in gcse. My mocks are coming up in just over a week (helpppp) and still my main issue is in English. My main problem is time management for the essays. In history, it’s fine because it’s kind of just writing down facts, but for English, I feel I can never get down everything I want to say. My teacher always tells me that I should write more to access the top grades, but I just struggle with it so much. The q5s in language (creative writing) I’m totally fine with, as I love writing my own things, but essays are going to be the death of me. I’m making a timing-specific post as I’m just wondering if anyone has struggled with the same issue, and how they managed to get through it.
Any help is appreciated so please give me some as I am crashing out!!

Hi there! I did my GCSEs this Summer and honestly, English Lit was a slog to get a 9 in. Honestly, give yourself 45 minutes for every essay (bar unseen which I'd spit 30 minutes on a and 15 on b). Try aim for at least 3 body paras that are detailed, use relevant quotations and are developed and analysed really well. An intro and a conclusion are a MUST since that's what a Grade 8-9 essay needs so if you're running out of time in the essay, ALWAYS cut to the conclusion and then use extra lines if you want to add extra ideas + paras (that's what I did in Summer). Hope this helps and please feel free to ask further .

Thank you!! Super helpful thanks . Do you have any advice on how to increase writing speed (I know the advice will probably be practice practice practice but I might as well try to find a method that doesn’t involve writing a million essays!)

if I was you cause i dont know for all exam boards but i think for edexcel which is the exam board i am going to be going through you get a piece of paper to plan your essay and my teacher always expresses to make a plan before doing the actual essay this may shave off a bit of time however through this what happens is that you have a clear outline on what to write and then instead of thinking on the spot or using your brain to hold all of the info you want to write down you have a step by step way to write everything taking off a bunch of time in the exam
