Any essay competition winners - what's your advice?

I've started competing in essay competitions in hopes I'll achieve some kind of award in a couple to put in my personal statement (I'm currently in Year 12). If any of you guys have won an essay competition or been highly commended in one, do you have any advice for me? My first one is due in late January and I'm about 1/3 of the way done.

Just be aware that very few Universities actually value 'competitions' and it won't be an application game-changer. Universities are far more interested in PS discussion of relevant academic topics outside your A level syllabus.

Alright, that's good to know. But, honestly, I also love writing so that's partly why I do enter these essay competitions
