pharmacy interview prep

Hello. I'm prepping for my interviews and im struggling to answer 'why pharmacy?' Q. for my personal statement I focused on my interest in healthcare led me to choose pharmacy. And a relative who was diagnosed with cancer showed me the reassurance from healthcare professionals. this showed me how empathy can support a patient and sparked my interest in how medicines work. Doing research and work experience in a local pharmacy helped me confirm the choice. what im tryna say is idk how to start my answer for this Q. idk how to introduce the personal story. I dont know how to word my response. plz help and if possible provide a sample answer.

Hi there,

This is a very common concern, so don’t worry

When answering “Why Pharmacy?” at an interview, we’re not looking for a perfect or dramatic story. What matters most is that you can reflect on your experiences and clearly explain how they led you to choose pharmacy specifically. You have already stated a major reason why pharmacy, and that is your close relative was diagnosed with cancer. This shows you are keen to learn and have a passion for helping people.

Just another point you could add to your answer could be:
For example, you might add to your answer :

How work experience/research confirmed your choice

Your interest in chemistry/science

Your time management and communication skills

There is no wrong or right answer when answering personal questions; just make it relatable to you and structured with key points about your motivation and interest in the degree.

Best wishes on your interview,
Elmehdi - DMU representative and current student
