Can I get advice about UK universities? Acting and film schools actually

I'm interested in possibly studying in the UK and would like advice from current students. What should I know before applying, and how did you decide which university was right for you? 😊

Hello!

I'm currently studying film production at Coventry University.

Before applying it's helpful to know:

What you want out of your course - film, media and acting courses are either production-based (with hands on, practical projects) or studies-based ( with theoretical, analytic essays)

It is also important to know how many creative courses a university does - lots of creative subjects usually means more opportunities to collaborate

Make sure to look at the modules you will be studying - you can find this on each course page on every university website

I chose Coventry University because of:

Excellent facilities, including studios, sets and a free equipment loan shop

The Talent team which provides dedicated careers, internship and placement support

Strong industry connections with both local and national media companies

A city-based campus that feels creative and well connected rather than like a closed-off student town

I hope this helps!

Yes thanks it would be great if you guide me on how to apply and stuff I’m international student (not from the uk)
Hello again!

As an international student there are a few extra steps to take but it should be straightforward. Students will usually apply to university through UCAS, The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (https://www.ucas.com). You can choose this way and pay £28.50 (GBP) to apply to up to five courses. Another option is to apply directly to a university online or to use an agent.

After submitting an application, an admissions team will review it and they might ask for further documents. If you receive an offer and accept it you will need to start the student visa process.

I’d strongly recommend checking the university’s international students page, as it explains the full process clearly and lists country-specific requirements. You can also contact the international admissions team directly they’re really helpful and can guide you through each step. Here is Coventry University's page https://www.coventry.ac.uk/international-students-hub/apply/

I hope this helps!
If you let me know which country you’re applying from, I can point you in the right direction for the next steps.

I’m applying from Nigeria
As a Nigerian applying to be a university student in the United Kingdom you need to make sure the university you want to study at accepts WAEC (West African Examinations Council) results. Depending on the course you want to take you may need to do a foundation year.

Next you will need to apply for a student visa which can be done through the gov.uk website (https://www.gov.uk/student-visa/apply-online). You can only apply if you have a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies).

Before starting at University you will need to sort out where you will live whether in university halls of residence or private housing.

If you would like more detail, here are a few simple guides that I got my knowledge from:

https://www.gov.uk/student-visa

I hope this helps!

You've posted your query in Studying in North America, so you may find the people you want to see your post about the UK drama/film schools don't see it! Might be better to put it in an International students in the UK section, or in the section on drama schools generally. Is it help on the admin side of being an international student you want, or guidance on which would be the most suitable schools for you?
