What extracurriculars did you do for audiology?

Hi,

While I’m not an audiology student, I’d recommend gaining relevant work experience where possible, e.g, in Specsavers or other opticians with an audiology department, or in hospital settings. Volunteering in care homes, charity shops, or schools is also valuable, as it helps develop transferable skills useful in healthcare.

Learning sign language is another great way to strengthen your application, as it helps build on your communication skills.

That said, universities are understanding if you can’t secure direct work experience. Any extracurricular activities you choose can be reflected in your personal statement or used for your own understanding.

Hope this helps,

Any public-facing work experience is valid for a healthcare course - so working in a supermarket, cafe, charity shop, etc. is fine. Try to also get a day or two of shadowing experience with an audiologist. This will help you show unis that you understand the role. Try for an NHS setting first but if it is not possible, then commercial settings are fine.

You could also ask current applicants about their shadowing and work experience in the following thread:
