Is it good choice to apply for Sheffield business management school

I am a international student that plan to study abroad in 2026. I have two options one is Exeter. Another is Sheffield. I prefer Sheffield uni to Exeter. What should I do?

if you prefer Sheffield, then go to Sheffield. What's your criteria for choosing either? I mean, you say you are an international student - so are there specific requirements in your home country that either university would fulfil? If it's just a choice of lifestyle, then you prob need to think about what appeals - city living, campus living, proximity to airports, London? Either are good choices in my opinion.

Sheffield - great University and probably a more interesting place to be than Exeter.

Hi @gross-renter,

Totally get this - it’s a big decision, especially as an international student.

From the Exeter side, it’s a really good option if you’re looking for strong academics and a smooth transition into studying abroad. Exeter has a big international community, so you won’t feel like the odd one out, and there’s lots of support around visas, settling in, and academic skills. It’s a Russell Group uni with a solid global reputation, so the degree is well recognised too.

The campus is one of the things people really love - it’s green, compact, and everything’s in one place, which makes life much easier when you’re new to the UK. It’s not a huge city like Sheffield, but it’s still social if you get involved, and many students find it easier to make friends.

At the same time, it’s completely okay to trust your gut. If Sheffield’s city vibe really excites you more, that matters. Exeter is a great choice if you want a supportive, close-knit campus experience - but go where you can picture yourself being happiest day to day.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi @gross-renter!

It's great to hear that you're considering studying here at University of Sheffield! I've really enjoyed my time here so far.

It can be really difficult to choose which University would be best for you. Usually, we would recommend going to Open Days at the Universities you are interested in to help you to decide, but I appreciate this may not be easy as an international student! Alternatively, we have lots of helpful resources on our website though that gives a good overview of Sheffield 🙂This 'Guide to Sheffield' link gives lots of great info about the city: https://sheffield.ac.uk/sheffield-guide.

From a personal perspective, I've found Sheffield to be a really welcoming, friendly University city, with lots to do. Sheffield is very close to the Peak District, which has beautiful scenery and is amazing for walking and de-stressing from your course! It has lots of independent cafes and restaurants dotted around the city and 'student areas'. Equally, there is a good clubbing/ bar scene in Sheffield if this is something you're interested in- with lots of them being in short walking distance from the University (and even within it, in the form of our SU club called 'Foundry').

There are lots of societies and sports clubs at Sheffield for you to get involved in, and these are a fantastic way of meeting new people and making friends. Equally, there are lots of events put on by the University in Welcome Week to help you gain familiarity with the Uni and city while meeting others!

I also thought it might be helpful to mention that The University of Sheffield offers a range of scholarships for international students which may be something you're interested in. You can view these here.

As a Home student, I appreciate that I might not be the best person to answer more specific questions you might have about settling in to Sheffield as an International Student. You can chat online to one of our International students here if you think this would be helpful for you!😊

Do you have any further questions about The University of Sheffield that I might be able to help with?🙂
