Major help needed for economics and tmua

I am trying to decide whether the tmua will be important for me to do and should I prioritise it over my mocks

I have got A*A*A for my a levels (maths English lit and economics) and I am yet to do my epq. I am trying to apply for economics at bath, Nottingham, Durham, Warwick and kcl. I did relatively ok in my GCSEs (9988888766) and I have already got my offer for Nottingham

I still need to do my tmua but I don't know how well I am going to do (even if I am going to do well at all). Given all of this what are my chances of getting offers from my other unis?

Many thanks for replying to however will 😁

I don't know about Durham but the TMUA isn't required for pure Econ at Bath or KCL but it is at Warwick so if you really want Warwick you'll need it! If you do an EPQ Bath will lower you grades if you get an A* or an A but Warwick and KCL don't take that into account. I'm currently at Bath doing Econ with Politics.

Hey man, for WW the poster above is wrong. TMUA for Economics is optional (https://warwick.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/apply/admissions-tests/) and you don’t need to do it to apply. But, it MAY lead to your application not being as strong if you don’t (heavy on may, nobody really knows) and if you do well, you’ll get a reduced offer. If I were you - I would prio TMUA over your mocks in these next few days, but I wouldn’t worry too much for Warwick if you don’t do too well, their econ course is known for being lenient with TMUA

I just achieved only a 4.1, given the average this year was 4.5, would i be advised to switch this to kings pure economics instead, or just not submit my tmua grade to Warwick university? Thanks.

Hi sorry when you say lenient do you know how lenient? Mine is tomorrow and I’m genuinely so bad at it I can’t get higher than a 3.0 no matter what, and people are saying the scoring has gotten harder so I’m probably going to end up with a 1. Something 🙁 it’s really stressing me out and idk what to do anymore

I’m in the same boat, I don’t think they would look too heavily on the Tmua depends on the number of applicants. Just go in with wishful thinking and hope for the best honestly, just bang the A-levels and we should be good.

What were your other stats? A-Levels, GCSEs etc.

I’m predicted 4A* Econ maths FM History and an achieved EPQ A*, GCSE was like 678999. I also achieved a commendation in an essay award in the John Locke. Thanks.

4A*s - great

John Locke - well done, but Warwick doesn’t tend to read personal statements so they’re unlikely to consider that

GCSEs are a problem: Warwick gives most of their offers to people with 7 9s+, so your 3 9s is definitely below what they’re expecting. And you only did 6 GCSEs rather than 9/10 that most people do.

Warwick’s a risky choice. I’d switch to KCL to maximise your chances, but if Warwick’s your absolute dream, then just try your luck.

I agree with another poster that your GCSEs may go against you and they don't take your EPQ into account, I applied for PPE at Warwick with A*A*A* (A* EPQ but irreverent) and 99998887776 and did get an offer. A TMUA of 4.1 is decent and they will probably consider you but there will also be many applying with 5+ so if you can afford a space on your UCAS for Warwick I'd go for it. Also I'm surprised your school allowed you to do 4 A levels with only 6 GCSEs, my GS wanted an average score of 8+ from a minimum of 8 GCSEs, my average was 7.9 but I wouldn't have done more than 3 A levels anyway as there isn't really any point (Unless apply to Imperial) and I felt doing 4 with all the added work and stress might have affected my grades

But isn’t the TMUA only recommended for Warwick econ and not entirely necessary? I was told it’s only used to see who gets a reduced offer?

Thanks for the response, our school only offered us 7 which is the amount I took, 9999887 (just checked this from ucas now), lastly is kings econ and Warwick a big difference, career prospect wise, especially if I want to end up going into consultancy or finance.

Warwick is better than Kings, but honestly it wouldn’t make a huge difference long-term. Your chances of getting into Kings are significantly higher than Warwick, so imo it’s worth switching to the course where you’re more likely to get an offer.

9999887 is much better than what you previously said (999876) so Warwick is possible - just a bit unlikely.

Sort of - for borderline cases, a high tmua score could really help your application. If you’re a relatively strong or weak candidate, whatever score you get is unlikely to affect your chances of an offer.

You’re probably on the cut-off for the reduced offer - I think your score is ok-ish and wouldn’t hurt your application in any way but I reckon that Warwick would give you an A*A*A offer, if they were to give you one.
