Timetable for midwifery at Brighton

Hi Everyone. New to The Student Room so just finding my way around. I am a little behind by the looks of it and only just have my UCAS application ready to go. I am applying to do Midwifery at Brighton.

I have two school age children (14&10) and we are not close enough for them to walk to school. My husband works shifts so I think my only concern at this stage is managing the school runs! Does anyone have a rough idea of the timetable for the on-site learning? I am aware that the placements will be shifts and am prepared for that but if I am expected to be on campus 9-5 Mon-Fri the rest of the time, that might be a struggle.

Welcome to TSR.

Try emailing the midwifery department at Brighton and ask for a copy of this year's timetable. It will give you an idea of what to expect when you start.

Hey,

I will be studying PGDip Midwifery in January. Yet to receive a timetable but have been informed that for the first 6 weeks of theory, lectures will be 2/3 times a week (one week 2 days and the next 3 days, e.g. Mon, Tues one week and Mon, Tues and Fri the next) and then have been informed after this 6 weeks theory block, the week after placement will commence. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Hi! Welcome to TSR! Many mature students with families manage to do Midwifery but it's good to plan ahead. I would heavily advise contacting the university as soon as possible to discuss your childcare situation and balancing outside needs. Placement wise as a current student midwife I know that typically students are offered the opportunity to request dates off or even discuss shifts that suit better of course that's a discussion that will need to take place but it's helpful to know.
