A level predicted grades

Hi does anyone know how a level predicted grades are calculated because i know that you have to use them for year 13 uni applications but say you didn't perform as well as your target grades in year 12 will this heavily impact your grades even if you have done well in say class exams. Doesn't it mean that the majority of your future course choice relies on year 12 grades because then you wouldn't be able to apply to certain courses solely based off year 12 even if you do happen to perform well in year 13 in the end. Thanks!

Hi @checkered-almond

Different schools will calculate your predicted grades definitely, however commonly they will use a mixture of all of your test results up till the point that they are decided. Predicted grades are usually a best case scenario estimate of what your college think you will achieve. If you are concerned about your predicted grades then I would recommend talking to your teachers to find out how they calculate them and if there are any ways that you can boost it.

If you end up doing better in your exams then you are predicted, then you have the option to go through clearing to apply to a different university with higher entry requirements (assuming that they have spaces).

Hope this helps!

It depends on each school. My school based them if a UCAS exam we did in year 12 but we did have a chance to appeal our grades which was based on year 13 performance. I know some schools have mocks in September for grades so it Varys. Hope this helps

Different schools will calculate them differently. They may go off mock exams, class exams, other work done in class etc.
If you didnt perform as well as you would have liked in your mock exams, but you have been constantly getting higher grades in things like class exams etc then the school may take this into account, as they know you can perform well (you just didnt do as well on the day).
Speak to your school to see how they do it.
