Has anyone ever rented a car for there driving test in the UK?

Like from Arnold Clark?

I'm having difficulty finding a reliable driving instructor that covers the area I live in and the test area of the test centre I want to use. I have an instructor who is reliable but doesn't cover surrounding test centres including the one I want to use, she only covers one that is far away, she'd probably charge a lot for test day too and I don't want to use that test centre

So would it be ok to rent an appropriate car from Arnold Clark (they do a service where they have rentable cars with dual controls etc suitable for the driving test). The only issue I could see with this was if I couldn't get a similar car to the one my instructor has and wouldn't know how to start/control the car then fail the test. Also someone of age with a driver's licence over 3 years would probably have to collect the car but I don't have anyone like that so I don't think I can do it unless someone who worked at Arnold Clark drive the car to test centre and gave me the keys.

I guess it is possible, but a bit of a gamble unless you can hire the car for a few hours to get used to it. Why not just do the test where your instructor is based ? You are much more likely to pass in the car you are used to.

Someone at Arnold Clark is unlikely to do that.

You'll need to find somebody that would be able to drive you.
Imagine you’d need a full license to rent the car and even if you didn’t, you’d need to arrange suitable insurance to a) cover the test and b) cover your trip home in the event that you passed.
