A-Level choices help

Hey, currently looking at applying for sixth form and am struggling with my a-level choices. I’m looking at doing Law or Psychology at University, I’m still undecided.
My current options are:
-Spanish
-Psychology
-History
- Politics
I couldn’t decide between History and Politics as I’m heavily interested in both so plan on taking both to start and leaves me with the option to drop one if needed. However I’m wondering if these options are suitable to get me onto the courses I’m looking at as they’re all at highly competitive unis. Should I look at taking a different option to my current ones to get me onto these courses?

For Law, your choices are fine, Law usually has no subject specific requirements. For psychology, are there any universities in particular that you might be interested in? Some universities like Newcastle for example prefer that you have 2 sciences which you don’t have.

Hi thank you for this help!
I did read that two sciences is often preferred for psychology and that’s something that’s worried me a lot. I’ve been looking a lot at York Uni and they don’t require two but can be desired so it does put me at a disadvantage there

Are there any other universities besides York that you might be interested in? The lack of two sciences if you plan on doing psychology is the only issue I can see with your A-levels. Besides that, I can’t see any issues.

Doing 4 A-levels is pointless but in your case as you say you can start with 4 and see which one you prefer out of politics and history.

I’ll have a deeper look at other possible universities for psychology and see what they’re looking for.
Thank you for your help!!

No worries and I’d say that’s a good idea.

Hello, your current options spanish, psychology, history and politics are actually quite suitable for Law or psychology at university, especially at competitive intuitions. Psychology gives you direct subject experience if you're leaning that way, while history and politics develop critical thinking, essay writing and research skills that most likely will be valued in universities also. Taking both and getting a snapshot of each before dropping would help you feel more confident in your choice.

Hiii as someone who’s applied to law who takes History, English Lit and psychology your choices sound good and a great match! Having that open door with psychology + history + politics (arguments sake) gives a window into law and psychology. If you took Spanish as well, that would also be fine with history and psychology and a nice break up between the two.
My biggest advice with history is that it is EXTREMELY content heavy, and the exam structure is brutal. If you love the subject and have a great interest like you do, then it won’t be as harsh!
Good luck 🩷

For law, they dont specify any particular subjects (Just the grades) so for that your subjects are fine.
For psychology, just double check on unis websites to see if they specify any particular subjects. Obviously you already have psychology, but just make sure they dont specify anything else.
Your subjects sound pretty good choices though.

Thank you for this advice!! I do History at GCSE and love it so I’m hoping that passion continues at A-Level as many have said it is brutal
Good luck applying for law at university!!

No worries at all! Def try to keep the passion at A lvl bc if you do it would be so much more enjoyable!! It is very brutal unfortunately, but if you have a deep passion I think it wouldn't be as bad.
Thank you so much!! Best of luck 🙂
