A level resit help asap!!!

I’m in year 12 currently and I take bio, chem and psych. My recent mock grades were horrible I am at a D for everything and the teachers at my school aren’t very helpful and judgy. The teachers here are very horrible at teaching and I find my self getting lost all the time.

I wanted to do medicine but ever since I came to this school my mind has changed and I want to do a different course now.

Should I retake year 12 in September and do a different course or do the same subjects at a different school. Or do I just suck it up?

Maybe go somewhere else if you dont like the teachers, teaching style, or subject. Are you passionate about medicine or do you just think a career in it sounds impressive?

Given that current teachers aren't supportive and you're struggling to follow lessons its not a reflection of your ability it could be the environment overall. Retaking Yr 12 at a different school or college with well suited teaching and support for your individual needs could help a lot moving forward. Also if you feel comfortable having a talk with teachers at your current school to address how you could be better supported also.

It’s a bit of both I’ve always dreamt of being a doctor since I was little but I’ve lost the passion for it now and realised maybe it’s not for me. I wanted to keep going to impress my parents but now I can’t be asked anymore. I really enjoy bio and psych as well

I have spoken to my teachers about it, and they say they’ll figure smth out but it’s been like 2 months and they’re no help. I’ve lost all hope with this school and all the other people I’ve asked that used to go to the school said that they had to do everything on their own and the teachers are rlly bad but that’s not how I like to work. I’ve also gone to tutoring but realised the tutors are horrible as well and other people who went there told me to move. I don’t wanna listen to other people but I’m seeing it with my own eyes

Dont do med if its not your passion, its too much work for that! Biology and psych are really interesting subjects, youll be able to find a degree subject relating to these which will suit you 🙂🤞

Are other students in your classes having similar issues?
How were your mock grades calculated?

Yes everyone who does psych and chem are struggling the most because they can’t teach properly. Our chemistry teacher got an E in a level chemistry and she’s teaching the part she hates the most so she keeps skipping over stuff and we all get confused when other people with different teachers ask questions abt chem. For psych I was at an A but I moved to D ever since this new teacher because he keeps switching topics in between lessons and linking stuff to other topics which aren’t even related. For our mocks we had 2 different papers for bio and chem and it was like paper A for teacher A and etc. and they added it all up together. The boundaries were really high tho like for an A* we had to get 73/75 for bio and 82/90 for chem

Me and like 10 other students were hoping that we could all move by the 3rd week but when we called other colleges they said it was too late

That is unfortunate, is it worth setting up a meeting of some sort with a senior member of staff and writing up student opinions?

I have tried for psych and previous students said they tried the same thing for chem but apparently it’s useless and you just have to do the work yourself. For chem the previous students spoke to the head teacher but it never worked and they had to do it themselves and that’s what the current year 13s are telling me as well. I tried to tell them about psychology and all they told me was that we have one more year left and just to push yourself and adjust but I can not. The teacher never took psychology as a degree or for an a level so he doesn’t know what the content is like so he keeps mixing things up

That seems very improper, do you think your parents could ask for a meeting to discuss or would this be the same dead end?
I suppose you effectively have 2 options: learn the content yourself or apply to local sixth forms to resit year 12 next year. Resitting year 12 is rarely as issue as far as i know because you dont actually resit any exams, just may make you less competitive for some top unis but honestly if its as poor as you say you may not end up with high enough grades to be competitive as an applicant anyway which is a real shame.

My parents won’t believe any of it and won’t let me move schools since it’s a close by. My cousins have warned my parents abt the school and how horrible the teachers are but they want me to stay in the school since it’s close and ‘prestigious’. But I did tell my parents if I get predicted BBB or any lower I’m going to move but they still won’t believe any of it

Even the internals who went to the school from year 7 say that you have to get used to it and do everything yourself
