SLT or OT?

I applied to speech and language therapy for university as well as occupational therapy but I am genuinely torn between the two. I have no idea which to go for as both have pros & cons. Can any SLT or OT help me make a decision and which is better in terms of demand, hours, salary and versatility.

Hi

Both professions are healthcare careers that are high in demand! though I believe that OT has a slightly higher demand since you can work across different fields, hospitals, schools, specialities. With work hours, they are similar but SLT positions in schools are more convenient. As for salary, you will start as a Band 5 once you qualify from either of them, the salary then changes depending on experience, practice and specialisation with time.
I would say look into the experiences of both OT and SLT students and qualified workers and also have a brief look on the content of both degrees.
All the best

Watch a day in the life videos on YouTube of each maybe buy a introduction book on both and then see what really speaks to you , compare your skills and interests and see where they would fit best , speech and language isn’t just verbal it’s non verbal, swallowing, breath control , pronunciation , tongue articulation . Occupational therapy helping individuals conquer daily tasks and or return to work with different aids or different therapies
