LR Study Blog - Countdown to Exams 🍀🌿

I’ve seen others doing this and I think it’ll be a good way for me to stop procrastinating, outline some goals and to reflect on my week at college every week up until exams 😬

I’m currently studying A-level biology, chemistry and maths and I’m predicted A*A*A.
I applied to uni back in October and have received all responses now, with offers from Durham (first choice), UCL, Warwick and Nottingham! I need to achieve ABB.

📋Weekly study goal: 16 Hours
🌟Best weekly study hours: 18 Hours

I’ll update this every Saturday with my study hours for the week 🌷
If anyone has any study tips please feel free to share 💗

Honestly I’ve done hardly anything over the Xmas break so these hours are from literally yesterday and that’s it 😭

Total Study Hours Completed: 3 hours
🧪 Chemistry: 2 hours
🧫 Biology: 1 hour

I think I’ll get a lot more done in the next week as I find it so much easier to concentrate within school and I go back Monday. I have mocks in around 3 weeks and I’m hoping to achieve all A*s so I need to lock in ✊✊
In the next week I want to get done:
- 1 biology essay
- 1 AS chemistry paper
- 1 A-level pure maths paper
On top of my normal flashcards, ppqs, summary sheets etc. Ready to push thru next week 😝😝

3hrs is much better than nothing 🙂
Best of luck for mocks! Are you doing a full set of a level papers for them?
Hope your revision goes well this week :yeah:

Honestly I’m not sure what I’m doing for them, my school are never really clear about what’s going on lol, but I assume it’s only 2 papers for each subject as we haven’t covered any A2 inorganic chemistry yet and we have a lot of maths to do. In biology we’ve nearly done the full specification but I don’t think we’re doing paper 3.

Liking the deduction lol
My school are making us do full a level papers for mocks even though we haven’t finished the content for anything yet :hide:

This isn’t super related to study but I’ve also started playing this game called Metazooa (really recommend if you’re interested in evolutionary bio). It’s like wordle in that you have to guess an (animal) species every day. You do so based on its phylogenetic relationship to the other organisms you guess! So I might also update this with my quickest guesses (on normal mode not practice) just for fun 🤭

❗️20 Weeks Left ❗️
Study Hours Completed
Overall: 20
🧪 Chem: 7
🧫 Bio: ~6.5
🧮 Maths: ~6.5

🤓 Independant Study
* 🧮 Completed A-level Maths paper 1: I didn’t do this timed, but otherwise it was under exam conditions. Disregarding the questions with unseen content, I got 62/80! Happy with this as the A* boundary for that year was 66/100 🥳
* 🧪 Completed AS Chemistry Paper 1: I got 89% so above an A 🎉. However there wasn’t much inorganic so it wasn’t too hard of a paper.
* 🧫 Completed Practice Biology Essay: Took waaaay too long and wrote too much for each paragraph. But it was good revision of some past topics I guess 😭
* Wrote notes on and did PPQs for every new biology and chemistry topic
* Answered randomly picked flashcards for bio and chem, as well as work on digestion and absorption, and entropy

🏫 School Work
* Got back some tests for chemistry; A* in aromatic chemistry (yay!) and 1 mark off of an A* in electro chemistry (very happy with this as I found this topic super hard 😓😓)

🐾 Quickest Metazooa Guess: Todays so I wont say the answer 🤫 4 guesses

📋 Main things to get done next week:
- A-level Chemistry Paper 2
- A-level Biology Paper 3 (continuing from essay)
- A-level Maths paper 2

Well done on all the revision this week! Scary how close a levels are :afraid:
Nice work on all the past papers!
What are the essays in bio like? My exam board doesnt have them but i wonder if theyre anything like the living env essays for ES
Great test results! :woohoo:
Wow youre quick at metazooa- it took me like 15 guesses lol
Best of luck with this weeks tasks 🙂

Thank you!
You have 45 mins for the bio essay and it’s at the end of paper 3. It’s 25 marks of 75 so you have to spend about 45 mins on it. The themes are pretty good and they’re usually “the importance of….” Then a really broad theme - the one I did was “the importance of membranes to the functioning of cells”
My only issue with the essays is I have no idea what kind of structure to have or how much to write. But hopefully that comes with time
I find the trick with Metazooa is to choose a recently evolved group (mammals and birds) because then you can immediately deduce whether the species is a mammal or bird or reptile/fish or invertebrate 😉 I think I did just get very lucky today tho loool I was pretty close with my first guess
