Self teaching higher maths

I was doing Higher Maths at my old school, but then they moved me down after a mock. Im doing edexcel maths higher privately. Now I’m self‑teaching maths and I don’t have a teacher or a tutor. I’m looking for some advice on how to learn maths on my own.

The best thing would be to get up the specification and highlight what topics you can do, what you can somewhat do and what topics you can't do, then watch videos on the topics you can't do first. Make sure you understand the topics by doing practice questions. I recommend PMT, MathsGenie and Gale Maths for these questions-when you're confident enough on all the topics then spam past papers. I would just recommend to practise, practise and practise. What year are you in now? I'm in Y11 and also doing Edexcel Maths Higher. Hope this helps!

I’m in Year 11, but my school says I have to do it privately. I needed a 6 but got a 5, and I got moved down in November, so I’m just learning the foundation content and feel like I’ve forgotten the higher stuff. I want to do Maths for A‑level, so I need to be really solid in the exam. My main issue is where to start I’ve tried to find a checklist, but everything looks different. I have a textbook but just doing the questions from there is not helping me.

Hey @fussy-steeple,

The best checklist is going to be the Edexcel GCSE Maths specification; it should be available on their website (here.) Higher Tier students are assessed on all content listed on the specification whilst Foundation Tier typically only covers some of the content (e.g. topics not listed in bold). If your textbook is up-to-date and specific to Edexcel GSCE Maths, it should include all of the topics listed in the specification.

Hope this helps and best of luck,
Eve (Kingston Rep).
