If anyone has been to an interview day for york, doesnt even have to have been maths really, could you lmk what it was like for you? I am travelling really far to go to this interview so i am just hoping it all goes well and im not too stressed lmao

I did one a few years ago (for maths), it was very relaxed so you shouldn't need to worry.
Mostly it was an open day with a little bit more structure. If I remember correctly, there were vaguely some activities in a group, as well as information lectures given for parents and students, and a walk around the campus.

The interview itself was basically just a very nice chat in an academic's office. If you have had an Oxbridge interview, it was the same style of maths, but more of a conversation than just having problems thrown at you. E.g., we chatted a bit about the (maths) book I'd been reading on the train there and some of the maths we discussed without there being a question to answer.
The academic I talked to was particularly lovely, so your mileage may vary, but definitely not worth stress.

Hi @cjay0

Congratulations on your invite to interview at York! I'm sure you'll do brilliantly 😀

I think most people experience some nerves or anxiety about interviews, I expect most other interviewees on the day will feel the same way as you! To help put your mind at ease, I'd recommend you contact our Maths Undergraduate Admissions team by email ([email protected]). They are really helpful and will be able to talk you through the interview process and what to expect on the day.

I hope this helps!
Hannah 😊

they said on the email that i dont have to go and they would still give me an offer if i didnt, but if i do go and perform well then my offer can be reduced which would be lovely

One of my best friends has an interview at York for maths tomorrow! I've heard that she's basically got the offer, it's just to decide how flexible they will be on results day!

We hope her interview went well and that we'll see her on campus this September 😊💖
