St Olaves/ Dr Challoners 2026 for Sixth Form

I’m planning to apply to St Olave’s and Dr Challoner’s for sixth form. I was wondering if anyone currently studying at either school could share any advice on the application process, or what grades and overall GCSE points they look for in candidates. I’m hoping to take Maths, Further Maths, Economics and History. Thanks!

Hi there,

I hope you’re well. I was just wondering whether you’re currently a student at the school in Orpington. If so, I wanted to ask how many points are usually needed from your best 9 GCSEs to gain entry into St Olave’s Sixth Form.

I’m hoping to take Maths, Further Maths, Economics, and History, and I’d really appreciate any insight you might have. If you study any of these subjects, could you share what they’re like at the school for example, the workload, teaching style, and general difficulty?

I’d also love to know a bit about the overall school environment and what it’s like being a sixth former there.
Thank you so much for your time I really appreciate it.

Yeah sure. So the entry requirement for us as internals is 63 but usually I’ve heard 76 plus cuts it. I know the competition has grown every year now and it’s grown astronomically high with every year.

I am actually hoping to take fairly similar A Levels, albeit probably not Further Maths. Anyways the maths department here is alright. It used to be great at A level a few years ago but now lots of teachers left and there’s lots of new teachers, quite a few of them who are trainees. Don’t get me wrong they’re perfectly fine and would cut it at GCSE level but Further maths…? Not entirely sure. But saying that our schools always been a very maths oriented school and maths tends to be our strongest subject as a school so that should be good. History departments really organised, one of the best in the school I would say. History and Econ are two very popular A level choices here. History is going good at GCSE rn too, so I wouldn’t worry too much abt the history department. Workload is fine- just generally as I am sure you’d know- there is competition to be expected and I am sure you’d probably know that if you are applying to Olave’s in the first place. If you thrive in such an environment I couldn’t recommend a better place. This is one of the best sixth forms in the area, I say this with no bias whatsoever. Any other questions feel free to ask!

Thanks. I really appreciate the help. Also, how is social life at St Olave's especially for those joining as externals to the school and do they integrate well into the sixth form? How are the sixth form facilities? I wasn't able to attend the externals sixth form evening so would appreciate it, if you could say how the sixth form facilities are?

Sixth form facilities are great. Social life’s probably gonna be good from what I’ve seen too. TBH all the externals get along well with each other as well as with the internals so there shouldn’t be an issue socially

Hi there, I'm at 76 points at predicted grades and at GCSE I think I'll probably get 75/76 points. I emailed the admissions office and they said for 2025 entry it was " 77 points with 3 offers being made to those on slightly lower score brackets which was due to their subject combinations." My A- level choices are Maths, Further Maths, Economics and mb History . What do u think my chances are getting offered a place on results day with 76 points and i get that score in my actual GCSEs?

Where do you live? I can't think you are near enough to consider both schools.

It isn't based on catchment. Its majority based on grades.

Hi, I am going to apply to that school so I am not entirely sure. I was at their open evening back in November, and from there they told us that the grade cutoff for 2025 was 76, so I'd assume that the grade cutoff for this year is 77/78 hence why I will try and achieve 78 on my GCSEs
