Anyone applying for veterinary medicine foundation years?

Hey everyone!

Im a year 13 student who’s applied to study veterinary medicine (with a foundation year) at Lancashire, Bristol and harper Adam’s, Veterinary nursing at the RVC, and Veterinary Chiropractic at Mctimoney College Of Chiropractic. I’ve got an offer to the Chiropractic course, (sadly) a rejection from Bristol but Im still waiting on the last three. Is anyone here in a similar situation? Anyone applying to anything veterinary or similar??

Bristol rejected me because my predicteds were ABC (C in biology), rather than the BBC id need to get as my school gets contextual offers to Bristol.

Hi @Rella13,

It's great to hear that you have applied to study with us. Just so you are aware, our admissions team are inviting applicants to interviews in batches incase you haven't heard back from us yet. I wouldn't worry about waiting too much as you can always message the university admissions if needing an update or they'll get in touch if they need further information. I understand this is an uncertain time as I didn't enjoy waiting to receive offer either when I applied to uni but know that you aren't alone in this.

Do let us know if you have any questions 🙂

Hi, I’m applying to the foundation year - am I correct in thinking that there are no interviews for this? When will applicants hear back regarding offers? Thanks!

Hi so i’ve done a non traditional route

My GCSE grades were average and so i was unable to do the typical ALEVEL science subjects.

Due to this i gave up the idea of even doing veterinary.

I was told that due to my grades I was unable to do ANYTHING in that area.

I was advised by the teachers at my college to do health and social care.

From the whole of yr 12 i was rlly upset as they told me i couldn’t do it.

I hated my course as it wasn’t even something I was into and everyone in my course were doing something that they enjoyed as they wanted to be a nurse, midwife etc.

I felt really out place and so eveytime someone asked me “what do you want to do I would lie and say radiology

Even though I HATED the idea of doing anything related to health and social care.

However during the summer I found that you CAN do it.

HOWEVER you either have to get work experience, do like a one course that’s a mix of biology and chemistry OR do a foundation year and apply for a course in the veterinary industry.

I also did some FREE online courses about the veterinary area.

I read lots of books and listened to podcasts and talked about that in my personal statement which STRENGTHENED my UCAS application.

But yeah even though i didn’t get the best grades, there’s still an option.

Even if some teachers might say there’s NO WAY , i strongly advise you to do some research online

)))

Yehhh I had the same problem! Most my gcse grades were 6s but unis needed 7. My school at the time didn’t believe in me at all and kept truing to advise me to pick other A levels or look at non academic routes. I ended up changing to a school that let me do biology and chemistry A level even though my grade was a 6/7 in combined science and not 7/7. I ended up going through 7 months of year 12 and getting to the point where I couldn’t continue A level chemistry because I was absolutely hating it and I’d never got anything above an E. They said I’d probably have to resit the year and were hesitant to let me change subjects but I convinced them to let me change to business Btech. I’m still really struggling with biology but aiming for a C or pushing it for a B. I didn’t get into Bristol because of my predicted in biology being a C because my teacher really has no belief in me getting any higher. That’s why ibe applied to mostly vet med foundation years and a nursing and vet chiropractic course. Let prove all those teachers wrong and achieve our dreams 🥳 I absolutely hate that students are told they can’t do veterinary because they don’t have the traditional qualifications. I hear it so often that someone wanted to be a vet but didn’t because they didn’t have the grades but there is 100% other ways in. It’s so nice to hear I’m not the only one in that situation also ☺️🥳

omg that’s so annoying that the teachers didn’t believe in you like wth.

At least you convinced them to let you stay because it would be so demotivating if you had to resit the year and the only thing u needed was the support from the teachers.

But yeah just believe in yourself and don’t worry there’s always a way.

It might take longer and it can be more difficult however if it’s rlly a passion.

You can do this!!!!

Omggg!! So my firm is going to be Lancashire if I get it and if not harper Adam’s bioscience to vet med, and my insurance is going to be either vet chiropractic at mctimoney college or rvc vet nursing! Do you live close to Lancashire?? I’m all the way down in the south of England lmao so it’s quite far 😭😂

Ikr! It’s so weird how small the vet industry is tbh! There’s literally one other girl in my year wanting to do veterinary lmao 😭😂

Hello! I was supposed to be in year 12 (theres only 12 years where I'm at) and I'm in the foundation for Bristol and have an offer for Surrey. I didn't even take any public exams so I can't say anything about my predicted scores but I think I was AAB. Don't stress too much! The foundation will be a breeze
