key dates and summer schools?

hello,

I'm trying to work out dates for applying to medicine - I've made the list below. Please could someone tell me if I have missed anything?

So during the summer after completing year 12, should I be only preparing the for the UCAT, or should I also think of attending a summer school in medicine? I'm not sure if a summer school in medicine is helpful or even harmful but I have a fear of losing out by not attending these magnificent summer schools. I'm just wondering if attending a summer school might actually do more harm by losing time preparing for the ucat?

Year 12
Mar-26 predicted grades mock
Apr-26 work experience
Jun-26 ucat exam prep
Jul-26 UCAT exam

Year 13
Sep-26 UCCAS application
Oct-26 interview practice
Nov-26 interviews
Jun-27 A levels exams

In relation to the summer schools thing, Cambridge recommends that you have unpaid or paid work experience in any health or social care organisation. - It could definitely be worth going to a local old people's home and seeing if they are looking for a weekender or part-time volunteers. This might help - Work experience - Medical Schools Council. They also list this: key_criteria_for_medical_admissions.pdf

There is no "requirement" for attending summer school, although it won't harm your application in any way. (For context, I have done no summer schools and got an Oxford interview for AMES) Summer schools only lasted a couple days to week max, though, and in these youre likely to get information you won't be made aware of elsewhere easily.

As for dates I would include when you can register for tests and start making your ucas application, you want to get your ucas ID asap. You also want to start looking at uni's now so you know which ones to look at over the summer before you apply, You have lots of time and those y12 mocks are really important so make sure to focus on those but once thats out the way you should look at the ucat. i have never look at the ucat but i know people start early on revising for it (although don't pay for anything unless youre 100% sure its accurate and it will work for you as you can easily spend a fortune)

Thank you Loolee,
The summer schools are really expensive and some are about 2 weeks long. So do you suggest I do a max of a week summer school... I'm hoping they dont affect my time for studying for the ucat.
