A-level subjects focused on Economic degree

I’m currently in Year 12, and have dropped History.
I was studying Further Mathematics, Maths, Economics as-well as history.
I was going to drop Fm after taking the As-level in year 12, but I’m considering taking a Economics degree with Mathematics included, so thought doing it Year 13 was beneficial
Would have taking As-level Fm and continuing History been better than only doing Fm,Maths and economics

I think it would be a good idea to take FM through to Y13, unless you are struggling with it, it will give you a very strong maths base going into university and will be very helpful if you're doing any maths-heavy degree, do bear in mind that it will be a lot of work, FM is by far the hardest A-level, so if you want a lighter workload, history will likely be the better choice, another thing to consider is that having FM will be a big advantage in uni applications, which may be helpful

Best of luck

FM is certainly useful for economics and for a couple of unis for single honours economics (mainly LSE) it's normally expected for you to take it if offered in order to be competitive.

Depending which universities you may wish to apply to, you may practically need to continue FM.

If not applying to those unis (LSE certainly, and debatably UCL and Cambridge) you could drop it and be fine in terms of admissions although bear in mind economics is fairly mathematical at degree level so the background may still be useful in completing the course successfully.

Look at the entry requirements for some Economics degrees - its Maths thats important, not Economics, and FM is usually not an essential requirement because not all schools offer it.

It would make sense to be taking Maths plus 2 other subjects that you will enjoy studying and where you feel confident of good grades - if you haven't already talked to your Head of Sixth or similar then go and see them ASAP to talk this over before you make any more decisions.

Undergraduate degrees in economics - Department of Economics and Related Studies, University of York
Economics | Study at Bristol | University of Bristol
Undergraduate | Economics subject group | University of Liverpool
etc

I miss worded my post, I haven’t dropped it yet I’m doing research while speaking to multiple teachers, but I’m still thinking history is the one I’m going to drop, as I prefer further maths, but I do love both so it’s a very hard decision.

It'll probably just come down to some function of how much you enjoy the subjects and what grades you're likely to get in them (and of course if these are both sufficiently high, then no need to drop anything)
