Advice on Pharmacy entry routes and resits – De Montfort University

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your interest in studying Pharmacy at De Montfort University. I am writing this thread to address all students interested in joining our prestigious MPharma degree. We recognise that personal circumstances can impact academic performance, and we encourage applicants to explore all available progression routes carefully.

Applicants who meet all academic requirements for pharmacy are encouraged to apply. Those who do not meet the standard entry requirements are encouraged to consider the Pharmacy with Foundation Year route. This programme is specifically designed to prepare students for progression onto the MPharm.

Places on the Foundation Year are limited and may become full early. Applications reopen each academic cycle.

For applicants who are not able to join the Foundation Year immediately, we recommend considering the following alternatives:

Related foundation or undergraduate degrees (e.g. Medical Science, Biomedical Science, Pharmaceutical Science). High academic performance may allow internal progression or transfer, subject to meeting progression criteria and availability.

Access to Higher Education Diplomas in Science or Health-related subjects, which are considered separately from A-level resits and can provide an alternative route into higher education.

Using a gap year productively, for example, by gaining relevant experience in pharmacy or healthcare settings, to strengthen future applications.

We strongly advise applicants to contact the DMU Admissions Team directly to discuss their individual circumstances and receive tailored guidance on the most suitable pathway. Contact [email protected] or via T: (+44) 0116 207 8443

There are multiple routes into Pharmacy, and many successful students join the profession through alternative entry pathways.

Kind regards,
Elmehdi - DMU representative
