Has anyone been moved to DP yet?😀

Nope; would we receive an email if this is the case, do you know? Don’t really want to have to check manually!

what does this mean? I mean obviously it must stand for Decision Pending and would signify just that, but I mean what would that look like on the portal, and what would it mean (i.e. 'you will hear v v soon' or just that 'we are now getting round to looking at ur appl.').

Also - happy 1/2 way waiting point!

I read elsewhere (I think on the general thread for Oxford PG applicants) that Decision Pending means that the validity of your supporting documents is being checked but they’ve decided to give you an offer, & that those who are rejected are sent straight to “Application Unsuccessful” or however this is phrased. Obviously these are different universities though so I could be mistaken in applying this to the Cambridge system.

Happy halfway mark!

Yea, the statement of purpose for Ox took me a long time to write & the criterion of “a defined set of research interests” was not that clear compared to the parameters for the Camb research proposal in the end I just copied my Oxford SoP into the Cambridge application & just added some bits about the Camb MPhil/removed any reference to the Oxford MSt, I don’t think I really followed the format they wanted haha.

I’m in the position of having already finished my undergraduate degree so have watched others go through this Master’s application process a few times without having participated in it myself until now all I will say from observation is that while it is very competitive, people do get in, & they usually seem to be able to judge when someone deserves a spot I’ve also known someone who was admitted to the Cambridge MPhil but told by her supervisor upon arriving that her proposal was bad lol & she was asked to change it, so it seems like they took her application quite holistically!

Just out of curiosity, is this someone happened to be Cam undergrad lol? And was she asked to change it before decision making?

She was at Oxford previously. & no, this was after she started the course I think it might have been that the faculty accepted her & assigned this supervisor to her who then decided that she needed to change her topic. But she did still work on one of the writers she had been planning to.

Will also say just to counteract this Oxford/Cambridge talk that at Oxford at least the faculty seems to take more Master’s students who did their first degrees elsewhere than their own former students, & there is a conscious effort not to be impenetrable to people who are coming from outside of the Oxbridge system

I passed this thread again. For my MPhil in English at Cam, I had given up on the portal. So I didn’t bother to keep checking. But I got my offer on the 16th of March by email and then there was a new set of instructions. Hope this helps!

My proposal took so long to write and I really struggled with the word count, just hoping I got my point across well enough in the short space we were allowed! It was my first time writing anything like it so I really hope I’ve done it right

i give up at this point too. Checking that thing nonstop just makes me anxious. Not good for my mental health!

Does anyone know if they’ll go through the applications by strand?

doubt it. I know that the Faculty assigns certain people to certain applicants, so I think it just depends on how busy ur assigned reader(s) is/are
