MPhil Computational Biology at Cambridge for 2026 entry

Is there anyone else who applied for the MPhil Computational Biology program for 2026 entry? Have they gotten back to anyone or has anyone gotten an interview date?

Hey! I submitted my application yesterday. Hoping to get in, fingers crossed.
I remember when I applied to an MPhil at Cambridge two years ago (albeit the MPhil in Scientific Computing) that I was sent an invite to interview about 3/4 weeks after submission (but this included Christmas and New Year's).
Hopefully they're just as quick on this course 🙂

Niceeeee.....I hope we all get in. Do you have an idea of the interview questions?

Same here! Fingers crossed for the both of us 🙂

I remember from the interview I had for the Scientific Computing course that it was more an interview to 'vibe check' and to confirm that what we said on our application was roughly true and that we'd been the one to write it and knew what we'd said in our application. I had no technical questions at all and it was more questions like: what are your intentions after the MPhil, what modules/research would you be looking at doing during the course, why Cambridge, do you have any questions for us, etc? It seemed that for the Scientific Computing course, the interview was more a formality and that those who were invited to interview were pretty much guaranteed an offer.

From what I have read on previous threads for this course, it seems as though that may be the case for this course as well? Although I don't want to get my hopes up and assume I've practically gotten in just by being invited to interview, so I suppose we wait...

If you'd like, we can maybe connect on LinkedIn to talk more about the course, our research interests etc? My LinkedIn profile is basically my TSR username. Would be good to get talking to someone else in the same boat 🙂

I applied about a month ago, still under review. May i know what your backgrounds are if you don’t mind sharing? I am from CS. Also it’s mentioned that not everyone will be interviewed

My undergraduate is in Chemistry at Loughborough, but I did an MSc in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry last academic year (24/25) at the University of Oxford. It's during my MSc that I realised I wish to move on to computational biology instead, but it does mean I have already worked on things like statistical mechanics, molecular dynamics, monte carlo simulations, R, a lot of the computational techniques that you'll often see in this field. I'm mostly wanting to do the MPhil to 1) get solid research experience as I currently have hardly any and 2) to learn the biological side of things.

I am currently doing a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics as I didn't get any PhD's last year, so I'm really hoping to get into the MPhil so I can apply for a PhD afterwards. The teaching is really fun and I love it, but I'm not quite done learning myself yet 🙂

Ms. Lot, you are clearly an amazing person and you have an impressive profile. Honestly, I do not know if I will get in because I do not seem to meet up the calibre of people that are often admitted. I only have a B. Pharm, but a good experience in bioinformatics and computational biology. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, yeah, I also sent you a linkedin connect request. I think you accepted already.

Does anyone know what they would ask for interviews? how technical it will be etc?

has anybody heard anything yet? still silent on my end

Just had the interview. Very much like I expected:
Why do I want to do this course specfically, considering I already have a considerable background in computational chemistry
How would I convince someone of the structure predictions confidence when it was done by AI (specific question relating to something I'd done)
Does AI scare me or excite me?

Very much like my Cambridge interview 2 years ago (albeit for a different course) and more of a chance to confirm whether or not the course aligns with me previous experience and a bit of a 'vibe' check.

They said we should reach out to them if we haven't heard back after 2 weeks.

Any updates since the interview? I had mine the same week and haven’t heard anything back yet. The Degree Committee met last Thursday, so I’m hoping we’ll hear something soon either way. It does seem like there’s been some movement on the Part III admissions side.

In the interview they said we could email them once it’s been 2 weeks, so if I don’t hear anything by Thursday I might email them..
Two years ago when I interviewed (albeit for a different course) it took them 4 weeks to issue an offer.

Just applying for the first time and wondering the competitiveness of this program. I have a first class from University of Toronto in Immunology and Physiology but have done studying independently in machine learning and AI with two research projects under my belt. Not sure how good I am feeling after not getting an interview at Oxford's Genomic Medicine.

Applied in December, received a rejection 2 weeks ago without interview, so maybe you shouldn’t lose hope. Wish you best of luck

Check your portals 🙂
I just checked the portal and my status changed to DP. I remember from when I was successful two years ago (albeit a different course) that offers are almost guaranteed at DP unless you forged documents or something, so I'm buzzing!!

how long does it take for them to make you an offer after that ?
