Aberystwyth or Bangor???

I'm applying to uni extremely last minute to study geography and am not sure if I should apply to Bangor or Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth is closer to the beach (but I don't know if the beaches near Bangor look nicer??) and I've heard a lot of great things about it, but Bangor looks more mountainous and slightly bigger. Can anyone give me some insight into what it's like to study at these places? what's the atmosphere like? which has better nightlife? Which has nicer surroundings? Please help!

I’m in my 3rd year at Bangor. It is a quiet uni, there’s only one club for example, so a lot of the nightlife is pub crawls before the club, but I prefer that personally. The setting is beautiful, and with trains and buses it’s pretty easy to explore Eryri & Anglesey! I drive which is an advantage in a small place, but not essential! Bangor is far closer to the mountains than Bangor, and Bangor has more beach options but because it is on the Menai strait, they’re not walkable like Aber. Feel free to ask any questions - I have only been to Aber once though!

My daughter's at Aber. There seems to be a very busy social life - lots of pubs/bars. She's made a lot of friends and enjoys the course. The town feels very "buzzy" due to the high number of students - there's a few boarded up hotels but not many boarded-up shops.

Be aware that it really is as cut off as people claim. There's a slow train out to Birmingham but getting to any other main city requires a change! Bangor definitely wins here with direct trains to Birmingham and London and quick change to Manchester or Liverpool.

But Welsh unis generally are great! Attitudes to students seem positive as the local economy is so reliant on them. Accomodation is cheap and you can get the special youth bus pass which gives you cheap bus travel everywhere.
