Leaf Courses - Are they impossible to get into?

Hi all,

To preface this, I recently applied to Leaf Courses and was disappointed to find that I was put into the independent learners category.

The application was split into three sections. The first one was a standard course application section, the second was an IQ-adjacent test (though I suspect that it was too short to be an IQ test, so my assumption is that it's a basic pass/fail test to assess mental aptitude), and finally a personality test.

Effectively there are three buckets of learners (listed from worst to best):

Independent Learners
Fellowship
Finalists

It seems that regardless of who applies, you will have a chance to participate in their programmes, so I suspect that independent learners serve as their rejects bucket to save face.

For context, my grade average of top 8 is 8.625, and as my biggest achievement I put my academic turnaround (from averaging fours to now nines in most subjects), the work experience I gained with a Big 7 tech company by approaching an employee, and my successful push for a subject to be implemented in my school. I could have added more work-experience-related things, such as the internship I have coming up with this FTSE 250 company that I gained by building a working relationship and meeting their executive team, but I don't know whether that comes across as great or just a kid using daddy's connections (which isn't true, I did this all by myself).

Given that I haven't completed my GCSEs yet, I had considered those to be relatively well-rounded achievements as my top 3. What more is there to add at this age?

I'm using this as practice for my future Uni applications.

Genuinely, any comment on how this works or feedback would be immensely appreciated.

I got in as a finalist (with the option to continue to fellowship but it didn’t align with what I wanted). It is possible although I felt I did pretty badly on the IQ test bit. I didn’t mention too much about work experience just mostly volunteering stuff as that alligns with the goals of the course (effective ulturism). The process is pretty different from uni applications.
