How to apply to a job near uni when I live too far away for interviews

Hi, I am planning on going to university in September and I need a job to afford rent, but I can't do interviews because I live too far away. How do I get a job? I am willing to apply once I move to uni but I imagine that it will be a lot more competitive. If it helps, I am 18 and I am planning on going to University of York. Thanks 🙂

Hi

We're so pleased you're considering the University of York! ❤️

It can be quite daunting and often difficult to find job opportunities but we have loads of resources and a careers team to help you out. The best place to start is probably by looking at our careers webpages and this 'Work while you study' page in particular.

Some particularly useful things available at York include:

uoycareers on Instagram - gives regular alerts about part-tie jobs in York

Handshake - a platform you can use to look for job vacancies, contact the careers and placement team etc.

Direct support with CVs, cover letters, interviews, application forms etc.

There are also jobs available at the University you could apply for including:

Student ambassadors

YuCall student fundraisers

Opportunities with the students' Union

Opportunities in the campus outlets, restaurants, shops etc.

I hope this helps!
