Dental hygiene and therapy

I really want to do dental hygiene I just finished an foundation year at uni and only got 40% I applied to Sheffield uni but got rejected but I also did biomedical science BTEC and my grade was MMM .but I have just started a fast track acess course and I really want to apply to dental hygiene but I’m scared to do it incase I get rejected . I plan to get 40 Distinction and 5 merits please can someone help me. Do you have to have experience in dental nursing to be accepted into dental hygiene .

No you dont have to be a dental nurse to apply, depending on the uni they accept A levels, BTECs and very few accept access courses

I’m doing acess course so does that mean I won’t get in am I wasting a year ?

I am not 100% sure, I do know people who do access courses apply to DTH but i am not sure which unis accept them, but i suggest u research all the unis and find out, from my knowledge ik a few accept access courses but again i am not fully sure!

Yes it was but if your thinking of going it don’t it so hard you need 70% and it’s mostly exam based not assignment based instead of a foundation year do a access course it’s so much easier

Manchester is incredibly competitive. I went to their open day for 2026 courses and they said last year they had well over 1000 applicants and only 14 spaces. You need to be tip top and stand out for them to consider inviting you to an interview

There are lots of different access couses, and no consistency between universities on the ones they like. So you need to check with each directly.

But after failing a foundation year I expect most universities would question how well you would do in a degree regardless of an access course.

hi guyss i did an interview with sheffield, unfortunately i didnt get an offer but they put me as number 4 on the reserve list, i was wondering if i still have any chance:/ im aware that their cohort is very small so its very competitive:/

Was it for dental hygine? Did you do BTEC or a levels previously or dental nurse ?

yes dental hygiene and therapy! i did BTEC yes i got DDD in applied science
