NHS LSF eligibility for pre-reg postgrad courses

Hi there
I am intending on applying to study the MSc SLT with Canterbury Christ Church Uni this coming September, but I seem to be hitting an issue with funding. I hold a first degree that is an integrated Masters in Engineering. This means that, according to gov.uk student finance, I am not eligible for a postgrad masters loan - sadly!

If I understand correctly, when it comes to the NHS LSF, one of the eligibility criteria is that one should also be eligible for available loans for both tuition fees and maintenance support from the Student Loans Company. I am assuming this covers the postgrad masters loan.

Does this mean that I therefore cannot obtain funding from the NHS for the MSc SLT? It would be a bit hard to swallow if that were the case...

Could anyone advise? Maybe you are/were in the same position - wha did you do?

Hi there,

What is the full name of the course and how many years does the course last? You are correct if you are not eligible for funding from student finance then you would not be eligible for the NHS learning support fund.

Thanks, Drew

Hi there,

So even though this course is a Postgraduate healthcare course it actually attracts Undergraduate funding and you would need to apply as an Undergraduate student. It is also classed as an exception course which means we do not take your previous study of qualifications into consideration when assessing your eligibility. You should be eligible to apply for full funding which is the Maintenance Loan, Tuition Fee Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable to you. You can also apply for the NHS learning support fund.

Thanks, Drew
