Is one essay-based A-Level subject enough for competitive social science uni degrees?

My options are currently chemistry, maths and history, alongside further maths. Social science degrees (especially PPE and politics) appeal a lot to me, so I want to ask if taking history is enough for this, especially at Oxbridge, as I know that my options lean very much scientifically. I do have strong extracurriculars related to these uni courses, but I just don't know if that's sufficient. Thanks for any suggestions!

Yes, that should be fine, especially for PPE.

Thanks! That's reassuring. Have you taken/ are you taking PPE?

Look at the stated entry requirements on a range of different Uni websites - PPE or any other degree including Economics will usually want Maths, but more general Soc Sci degrees like Politics, International Relations or Law often have no required or preferred A level subjects at all, or at best 'an essay based subject' so History would be fine.

For extra reading suggestions etc, look at these - good for all Unis, not just Oxbridge :

No, I've just been around here for long enough to have seen similar questions before.
