Do people generally have more free time in sixth form than secondary school?

Most people only take 3 A-levels. Granted those subjects are studied at a greater depth than GCSEs, but overall if you're not working part time, I think yes, 16/17 year olds in sixth form have a lot of free time.

Varies by school, I think. I take four subjects and only have around 1 study period per week, and my sixth form still requires you to be in all day. It still feels like GCSEs/secondary school with harder content

It isnt 'free time' - its when you are supposed to be doing independent study. There is a direct correlation between the amount of time students spend on independent study and final A level grades - the students who spend their so called free periods just messing about in the Common Room etc will be the ones with low grades in August and no idea what to do next.
