Hi there,

Have you checked with the universities that you want to apply to? As each one might have differing requirements it possibly depends on where you want to study. I would check with their specific requirements.

Hi fellow Meg!
I actually just made a post about portfolio advice if you want to check it out!
Portfolio and Interview advice for art courses
While I did illustration I'd recommend showing off 8-10 pieces (depending on the size of the project and the amount of iteration/research included). I'd also recommend asking the specific Universities you'd like to go to on here and a games art ambassador could help you find out what you need to know!

We have an amazing Games Art programme at UoS and our staff/current students on the course would be happy to answer any questions you have!

If you have any more questions just let me know!🥰

I’d start by just gathering a bunch of pieces that you want to add to it and think about how each piece demonstrates your style, process, ideas and inspiration. I’d go for at least 5 pieces with a brief description of it underneath. They want to see not only what you’re capable of but what kind of work makes you an artist so really just try to demonstrate who you are as a creative. if you’re in sixth form/college i’d defo recommend talking to your tutor about it. there’s also a page on ucas website with portfolio guidance.

Hey,
I have a thread about compiling portfolios for undergrad with some specific tips for Game Art  You can find that here: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7597072

But to summarise that very quickly:
- follow the advice for each university
- include some examples of each: creative ideation, technical skills, and development & iteration work.
- for Game Art specifically, include some examples of working in 3D space, either with digital mediums or traditional.

As for number of pieces, if the university hasn't given you any explicit guidance I would aim for somewhere around 12 to show variety but focus on your best work.

I studied Game Art and always happy to chat about it if you have any other subject-specific Qs.
(Sorry I missed this earlier! I usually catch games threads but must've missed this one)
