Which new country would you most like to visit?

I'm planning my first holiday of 2026 and having a think about where else I might like to go soon.

At the moment a lot of that involves different cities in countries I've visited before, but I'm asking, which country that you've never been to before would you most like to visit?

I have been wanting to go to Portugal for a few years now!

I think the country I’d most like to visit for the first time is Japan, because of its mix of ancient culture, modern cities, beautiful nature, and incredible food. It feels like a place where every day would be a completely different experience. And Portugal is a great choice, relaxed, scenic, and full of charm.
Italy or Greece, for the history. (I have been to Corfu before when I was about 10, but not the mainland).
Iceland. It looks so beautiful and its annoying I couldn't go with my Geography class back in March last year. Its expensive though which is the downside.
But now I can't decide lol as I've just realised that Ive been to the UK and France only.
Ireland: Same currency, member of the EU, no passport and ETA needed and the capital Dublin and the cliffs of Moher are destinations worth to visit.

A passport is needed as it isn't part of the Schengen Area.

When I flew into Dublin last October they sent me through passport control despite having arrived from the Common Travel Area!

Not like when I flew back into Bristol and landed and walked straight out of the airport

:sigh:

I begin to change my mind and look for another country in Schengen Area. What an effort for a holiday trip.

I've never been to Japan, but it seems like a fantastic blend of culture, cuisine, and landscape. Portugal is also an excellent option; I've only heard positive things about it.

I appreciate the ancient period of Greek and Italy too. The ancient buildings are so fascinating and stunning, hard to believe they remain for thousands of years.

Chile and/or Argentina as Patagonia has been on my wish list for quite some time.

No specific countries in mind just yet... but I'm learning French and Spanish, so would welcome an opportunity to immerse myself in either one of those languages... so any Francophone or Hispanic country would be on my list. Considering somewhere in South America or Africa (or possibly Canada) if I'm feeling rich by the summer. If not, then France or Spain will do (even though I have been there... but years ago).

If you're planning on going to Japan, make sure you've got a decent (reliable) translation app, if you don't already speak Japanese... as English isn't spoken much there outside of the business / financial districts of the big cities. And it's not like you'll be able to read the signage etc. and guess the words, as it'll all be in a completely different alphabet (Japanese language uses 3 different writing systems lol).

As for Portugal, you'll be fine there, as Portuguese (especially the younger generations (e.g. Millennials, Gen Z etc.)) generally have a good grasp of the English language. Italy is the same... but not-so-much France or Spain, strangely.

Same here. I have read a travel guide and watched reports about this country. I will give it a go in the future.
