sfe - independent student or do i have to use my parents income still

i know some people qualify for independent depending on circumstances so i wanted to check my own. i have been self sufficient since i left college, paying bills, rent and for all my own expenses (food and necessities etc) whilst working full time (i am turning 22 soon, so for about 4yrs). i lived out of home for a year with an ex partner and was the sole provider for majority of that period too. Essentially my living situation, though with my parents, is like a house share with/ “tenancy” under them rather than them providing for me. i am a tenant on the actual rental property too- also will this affect my amount from sfe ?

thanks!

Hi there. To be considered as an independent student under the 'Self- support' category.

A student can be considered independent if you supported themselves financially for at least three years (36 months) prior to the 1st day of the 1st academic year of your course.

The three years can include periods when you were;

in paid employment

in receipt of state benefits such as: Income Support, JSA, incapacity benefits, invalidity pension or maternity allowance, PIP or DLA. (this is not a exhaustive list)

Acceptable evidence can include a P60, any pay slips ideally month 12/week 52, benefit receipt letters, statement of earnings from HMRC or employer letters, tax returns or an accountants letter.

Thanks, Leah.
