UoY vs UoL

I’ve got offers from University of Leeds and University of York, for Chemistry. I love both of them however I can’t make the decision on which one is better for me future wise. Also, if I should take considering of the rankings that deeply as I get mixed reviews

Hi there,

Congratulations on your offers from us and University of Leeds! 🎉🎉

As an offer holder, you should be sent an invite to a Visit Day for Offer Holders with us. I'd really recommend coming to that to help with your decision as you'll get to: sample Chemistry teaching at York, speak with current Chemistry students, explore our campus and accommodation. You could also go into York after the Visit Day event is over to see our beautiful city.

We also have student blogs and vlogs showing what life is like as a Chemistry student at York, here are a couple of our students' vlogs:

As for careers, the University has a central Careers and Placements Team which can help you with lots of things from drafting cover letters and CV writing, to 1:1 appointments with careers advisors and mock interviews. There are also careers fairs, workshops and lots of other ways you can develop your employability.

I hope this helps! If you've got any other questions, feel free to reply to this thread 😊

How well do you know the places?
If you cant choose between the courses then, IMO, look at the Uni and the City - they are both quite different places, even though they are only about 20 minutes apart on the train. By spending some time in both, one is likely to "feel more right" for you. FWIW I really like both, but for very different reasons.
Leeds as a city is less posh/touristy than York, so its easier to go out, go shopping etc. My daughter is at York and avoids the city much of the time because of tourists, but she loves the campus. York accommodation is expensive and there aren't really any supermarkets near campus. Buses can be a bit rubbish (York traffic is the issue) so walking / cycling can be quicker.
York Uni is a campus uni, separate from the city, though campus facilities are limited evenings and weekends. Leeds Uni is more a part of the city, so feels more integrated, less of a bubble
Another aspect that might help you choose could be the clubs and societies, anything you really want to join?
Good luck - 2 great choices to pick from
