Cardiff university medicine

Will Cardiff University allow me to do medicine (MBBCh) if I only have grade 5 in gcse english language but all the other requirements? If not, could they accept IELTS exams with grade 7.0 for uk students?

IELTS won't be a suitable alternative for a Home student. They'd expect you to be retaking Eng, otherwise it would be a quick rejection I am afraid.

I didnt born here. I moved to the uk in 2023 October and straightaway did GCSE in 2024 june. In that first gcse exam I got grade 4 and then I managed to get grade 5 in the resit. The university wont allow resits that are after 12 months. I am in the contextual offer too.

1) Are you applying as an international fees payer?

2) Are you absolutely sure that the resit policy applies to GCSE's, and not just level 3 qualifications?

Hello. I was the one who asked about Cardiff university medicine. So basically I am not applying as an international student. I am applying as a uk student. To do that I am taking a gap year due to 3 year stay policy in uk to be selected as a uk student. Plus I am very much sure that Cardiff university only allows to retake the gcse English language for next 12 months from main first exam.

If you read the page on admission criteria, your question is very clearly answered. “GCSE resits within 12 months, EXCEPT English Language which can be at any time”

sorry i heard very contraversial facts with regards to admission requirements. i heard cardiff -medicine is very heavy on GCSE score ie 11A* is a must . is this true?
I scored 8A*s and 2As... is it worth applying to cardiff regardless of my A levels and UCAT scores if they are heavy on GCSE.

For Cardiff med you cannot resit A levels and then apply. The only way they may accept resits is if you held an offer from the previous cycle then an extreme event happened that made you perform worse in your A levels. You must also let them know the extenuating circumstances happened before results day they'll give you pre approval.

Cardiff scores A* and A the same so youd be absolutely fine. UCAT cut of fluctuates some years its been kinda high some years pretty low.

Good guidance. I’d assumed what the OP had said about level 3 retakes was correct. It was whether this applied to GCSE requirements and whether that was an assumption or something clearly stated that I was following up on.

What he said about GCSEs was correct though except English language which can be resat at anytime. However Cardiff is an incredibly competitive med school with ~3000 applications for 300 offers and so meeting minimum requirements is not enough to secure an interview (usually 1000 are given out). You'd need perfect (non contextual) or near perfect (contextua or A level grade holdersl) gcse points which means you need all 8s or 9s in 9 gcse subjects including biology, chemistry, maths and English language. Its scored out of 27 so OP needs to have very strong gcses to stand a good change at interview. For Cardiff personal statement is also read and considered and many are rejected due to them not liking the personal statement. Sometimes there will also be a moderately high UCAT cut off but that varies year on year and depends on chance.

Okay - the GCSE English stance was the only point I was clarifying them, not what overall profile might be needed.

Yeah i know it wasnt really directed at you more just the fact OP acts like if he just meets minimum requirements he could secure an interview when in reality that is incredibly unlikely.. I dont know his whole academic profile though of course.
