The fire alarms keep going off almost every week in Mary Newman...
Hi there!
Sorry to hear you're having some trouble with the fire alarms in your halls! It can sometimes happen with lots of students living in the same building, but as general advice to everyone in your halls, I'd recommend making sure to keep the bathroom door when showering, ensure good ventilation when cooking, and taking caution when spraying aerosols etc. (so do share these tips around to reduce any false alarms!) 🙂
If you have any issues or want to contact the accommodation team, you can chat to them at your halls reception or email [email protected]

For any new students who are looking to stay in Francis Drake halls here at Plymouth, it has since had a recent renovation since the start of this much older thread (+14 years ago!), so don't worry about any issues previously mentioned 😄 The accommodation team are on-hand to help out and sort any issues and anything that isn't the student's fault (e.g. a leaking window) wouldn't be charged to you as it's not your own fault.
I stayed in Francis Drake and didn't have any issues and enjoyed my time there, and any maintenance requests (submitted via the handy app) were sorted with very promptly. The team are also always on hand to help out at the student reception or via [email protected]should you have any queries or questions.
Best of luck and enjoy the halls experience if you decide to stay on campus (it certainly comes in handy when having lectures in the buildings just next door!) 😆
