durham colleges?

just a quick question for any current/past durham students!! i got an offer to study law at durham in november and they said in my offer conditions to look out for further emails to input your college choices..so i have 2 questions!!

1) what college would you reccomend for law (i can’t decide whether i want catered or self-catered yet)

2) when did you get an email about college choices? i haven’t heard back from my final uni choice yet (cambridge), so i’m thinking that because i haven’t put durham as my firm or insurance yet because i haven’t heard back from my final uni that maybe they’re waiting for me to put it in as my firm on ucas? (which it definitely will be if i don’t get into cambridge haha)

Hi!! Durham student here!! There’s no specific college that I’d say is the “best” for law but if you don’t want to walk too far the hill colleges are closer to the Law building and they’re a mix of catered & self-catered. Some colleges have specific law societies within them which might be something worse considering, I know hild bede do! I think I got my college email sometime in the early spring/late winter but you don’t have to rank colleges till about Late April/mid May time so there’s no rush at all

1) I would suggest that St Mary’s, Hatfield or University College

2) It depends on your other choices, but I would suggest that you are either Firm or Insure Durham based on the offer conditions.

Hello!

As for which college I would recommend for law, any! Every college is the same academics wise for all subjects (they don't do any teaching in college) and there are other factors I'd recommend deciding on (location, "vibes", catered not catered, societies/sports, gowned or non-gowned etc etc!) I'd also recommend not stressing about it too much given how honestly little which college specifically you end up at affects your life at Durham + you'll end up loving the college you end up in anyways!

Hope this helps somewhat!

Hello!
You do need to put Durham as either your insurance or firm on UCAS to chose your college. You'll only get the email after that!!

Durham sends out the email to put in your college preferences before you have to firm/insure them
