What is it like at Cardiff Uni? (Politics applicant)

Hi! I've applied for the Politics & IR course at Cardiff and was wondering, from any past or current students, what the course was like for you, as well the university in general?

I'm also autistic and worried about going to uni due to needing to make friends, socialising with people I don't know and also I am not someone who likes drinking, clubbing or partying so I'm worried this impact my chances of making friends. And, does any autistic people, or other ND people, have experiences with support the uni offers? Is it helpful?

I understand they are reconstructing most of the degrees and so the modules are not on their page, so I was also wondering what anyone knew about this and what the module selection might look like? Do they have much on environmental policy/politics? Or political psychology?

This last question is more specific - I'm interested in joining the music society and playing the orchestra, however, I have only began playing very recently so am not at a good grade. I've been improving relatively quick and am at about grade 2/3 now, would this be enough to join? Or should I wait until second year? Are there many people in the music society who aren't taking a music degree and who are at a lower grade?

Thanks!

Hii! I've also applied to Cardiff, but for Politics and Sociology - so we'll probably share the politics side of the course. I also have autism/ ADHD and have been worried about university for the same reasons you are, since drinking and partying have never been my thing...🥲 I applied to Cardiff because I heard their ND support was apparently good, but I'm honestly not sure. For friends, I've kind of just been hoping that there will be other ND people in my courses/ accommodation (which there most likely will be), so hopefully making friends won't be too hard.

I'm sorry that I couldn't answer your questions, but I just wanted to say hi since we're in similar situations. I hope you find the answers you're looking for and good luck with your A-levels! ☺️
