TV & RADIO PRODUCTION at Salford

Has anyone studied this at Salford? I'd like to know more about the Development and Commissioning module at level 4? What it covers and how practical/theory the format is, as well as the assessment style?

Anyone?

Thanks
Hi Mareyam, I am a current third year at Salford doing Tv and Radio.

The Development and Commissioning module is classed as a theory module, however it has practical elements to it.
It is a group project module, where you learn about the different commissioning briefs by distributers and producers (such as BBC 3, ITV, Netflix). You then apply what you've learnt about the type of shows commissioners (the people who finance a project) want, and develop your own show idea.

You will then have to create a treatment. This is like a portfolio with your show's name, what it's about, when and where it would air, and why you picked that time / broadcaster.

There is also a presentation. This is where your group condenses your treatment into a nice PowerPoint or some people make leaflets and posters. It's no new information, just proof that you all know the show idea and would be able to pitch your show if you ever took one to a commissioner.

The module is designed so you understand what goes into the development of an idea and how they get financed. This is all the things that happen before Pre-production that often get overlooked.

If you have any more questions about this module or other course questions let me know.

Hey, thanks for this, it’s really helpful. Would you mind if I DM’d you? I’m considering a switch to TVARP (I’m at Salford, too), and have a couple of other questions.

I can't really respond to DMs or share that info on here. I'm happy to answer any questions through the student room as the answers could be helpful to other prospective students.
