A-Levels for Palaeontology?

I'm choosing my A-Levels soon.
I'm definitely choosing Biology and Maths, but should I do Geography or Chemistry? Ultimately I want to study Palaeontology at uni.
I've currently seen some unis allow Geography as a third science, (mainly UCL and Bristol), but if I choose Chemistry I can apply for Oxbridge.

Can you do 4 and drop one?

If not, Geography.

Hi!

I’ve had a look through a couple of different palaeontology (and related) degrees on UCAS for you, most of them ask for 2 sciences, but a lot of them will accept geography as a science!

I’d suggest looking through ucas at possible degree options and just checking their entry requirements, and find the options that work best for you! Have a look through each university’s modules- there may be a different focus at each, that a different a level may be more useful for. Definitely have a look at a variety of unis, course structures will change between them and you may find one suits you more than others. This might help you make a decision! I think all of your options would work well, so pick what you would enjoy the most, ultimately!

You could also have a look at degrees that encompasses paleo, but is a bit broader, something like evolution could be good!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Have you had a look at the modules oxford offer? I have a strong interest in palaeontology but when i looked at oxford earth science degree I found it was very focused on the physical side of the subject (geology focused) whereas my interests are more towards the evolution/biological aspects of the field. Have you considered which you prefer? From my knowledge, geography will give you far more of a background understanding in earth sciences but chemistry would be helpful for further study into the processes found within the physical science side of palaeontology. Btw if youre interested in the life science type side of palaeontology (or not… some of them are good for either!) lmk cos i have loads of wider reading recommendations I could share if you want them for the year 11 summer or for in year 12

I would choose whichever you prefer. You’ll probably do better in it
